But what about those middle-aged Gen X'ers who live seemingly normal lives, outside of politics? Perhaps their lives go beyond the norm. Maybe they have become successful professionals and made millions, or multi-millions. Maybe they have become stalwart members of their communities. They go to church on Sundays, give to their favorite charities, and coach their kid's Pop Warner Football teams. Their houses are where all the neighborhood kids want to hang out at. They are the fun people. The parents all the kids wish they had. And yes, their grass is indeed, greener.
Until the image is shattered one day when it's revealed that a long time ago, the male parent was involved in a murder along with two of his best friends. Maybe the murder case has gone cold over the past 35 years since it occured, but only now is it warming up after one of the would-be murderers made the decision to talk. No, that's not right. Now that he's found Jesus, he's decided to confess his sins to the world and to Christ. And in doing so, he is going to bring his two murderous, now adult friends, down to hell along with him.
If you were one of these people who were complicit in the death of a man, a lawyer, back in 1982, and who for all these years, assumed the case was buried along with the now decomposed body, what lengths would you go to see that your old friend doesn't talk? Would you just stand there helpless, and watch your wonderful normal world crumble all around you? Or would you do something different? Would you be willing to kill for a second time in order to preserve what you've worked so hard for?
This is precisely the story behind my new novel, The Sins of the Sons. Based on a true story, Sins is proof that even one bad mistake that occurred back when you were still a relatively innocent teenager, can rear its ugly head when you've become a responsible, respected adult. Murder is not the kind of thing you sweep under the rug. It's the kind of sinful burden you carry on your back, even into the after life.
